Newburyport is a historic coastal city in northeastern Massachusetts, located about 35 miles north of Boston at the mouth of the Merrimac River. Known for its beautifully preserved Federal-period architecture and vibrant downtown, the city was a major shipbuilding and maritime commerce center in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, Newburyport is an affluent community that attracts visitors with its waterfront location, boutique shops, restaurants, and proximity to Plum Island and Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.
