West Springfield is a mid-sized city on the western bank of the Connecticut River in the Pioneer Valley, directly across from Springfield. The city is known for hosting the Eastern States Exposition, better known as "The Big E," New England's largest annual fair, which draws over a million visitors each fall. West Springfield developed as an industrial center in the 19th century and today maintains a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and recreational areas along the riverfront.
