Once a thriving center of textile manufacturing in the 19th century, Lawrence is known for its historic Bread and Rose Strike of 1912, a pivotal moment in American labor history. Today, the city is one of the most diverse communities in Massachusetts, with a predominantly Latino population and a rich multicultural identity.
