Emergence Academy
Springfield is Massachusetts' third-largest city, located in the Pioneer Valley along the Connecticut River in the western part of the state. Known as the birthplace of basketball, invented by James Naismith at Springfield College in 1891, the city has a rich industrial history and serves as the urban and commercial center of Western Massachusetts. Emergence Academy is a smaller alternative high school within the Springfield Public Schools system, designed to serve students who may benefit from a non-traditional educational environment.
