Known for its rural character, working waterfronts, and large land area (the sixth-largest town in the state by size), Dartmouth maintains a mix of farms, saltwater marshes, and scenic coastline. The town was one of the earliest European settlements in the region, founded in 1652, and retains much of its historic maritime heritage.
